Teen Beginner Improv
Teen Beginner Improv
You found the perfect place to let your imagination run wild! No experience needed, no talent required, and no pressure to be funny. Over six weeks (or longer) your student will learn to build scenes out of thin air inside a room built to teach them that the only way they can do improv wrong is if they aren't having fun. Help them find out how creative they can really be.
- Agreement: "Yes, and...", the foundational principle of improv. Finding agreement in the reality of the scene and adding relevant information.
- Listening: Treating what someone says with the utmost importance, even if they didn't intend on saying it, while learning to observe and understand, instead of judging.
- Relationship: Discovering who characters are and how they feel about each other, their status, what they want, and the choices they make.
- Emotion: How to embody, express, and understand what a character feels — what emotions look like, what they feel like, and how to read them in fellow improvisers.
- Commitment: Firm belief in the reality of the scene, holding its truth with integrity no matter how strange it gets.
- Ensemble: Broadening your awareness beyond yourself to your fellow improvisers and the stories we build together.
Ages: 11-14
When: Saturdays 12-2PM (check calendar for schedule)
Where: Improv School Redlands, 415 Tennessee Street, Suite M, Redlands.
Cost: $210 for 6 weeks, or included in the $95 Ongoing Monthly Membership.
What to Expect: Look for the sign on the street, the walkway, and in the window, and come on in. Sign in at the front desk, make yourself a name tag, and grab a seat — there'll be music playing while everyone arrives. A few minutes in we circle up for a check-in, some warm-ups, and then improv exercises until a break halfway through, then we play some more and close with a liked-and-learned.
